Under The Same Painting- Ink, Rice paper and Oil on Canvas, 2025
51x 41cm
This painting explores themes of displacement, memory, and belonging by juxtaposing the ephemeral with the permanent. My self-portrait is rendered on delicate rice paper, contrasting against the solid canvas and oil paint, which depict a section of the signature picture hanging in my grandparents' living room in China.
By placing myself within their space—a home so far away—I reflect on the tension between presence and absence, connection and distance. The fragile, drifting quality of my figure embodies the experience of being both a part of and apart from this place of deep familial roots.
