Through the Moon Gate V is part of an ongoing series inspired by the gates and windows of traditional Chinese gardens. Using rice paper, ink, sand, copper leaf, modelling paste, printmaking, Chinese paint, and oil paint, the work is built through multiple layers of addition, concealment, and revision. Architectural forms become conceptual portals through which memory, perception, and transformation are explored, expressed through visual references to scholar’s rocks, light, plants, and abstracted lines and forms. Traces of earlier stages remain embedded within the surface, suggesting how experiences accumulate, shift, and persist over time.
