The work is continuously inspired by traditional Chinese garden architecture, which are full of windows and gates that frame the view and guide visitors through layers of scenery. This work reimagines these openings as portals through which memory and cultural heritage can be glimpsed but never fully grasped.
The diptych format allows two temporalities to sit side by side. The darker panel suggests the obscured, fragmentary nature of the past, while the lighter panel opens into the shifting clarity of the present. The garden becomes a dreamlike space where past and present can meet, even if only for a moment.
